Precision engineering

Visitor sign in for engineering companies

Contractors and visitors sign in on an iPad at the front door, accept your site rules on screen, and are on a fire roll call your marshal reads from a phone. Somebody is told they have arrived even when the front office is empty.

Try it yourself, no sign-up

Sign in on a demonstration kiosk, then open the fire roll call on your phone. Do not enter real details: everything typed is deleted within the hour.

From £599 setup and £150 a month plus VAT, iPad and stand included.

Who this is for

An engineering business where the front office is everybody’s job

Machining, fabrication and extrusion, usually owner-managed, with the front door covered by whoever is in the office. Contractors are on the roof, in the yard and inside the machines, and customers come to see first-off parts. The visitor book is a pad on the counter, and nobody is quite sure who fills it in.

What gets asked at the front door

Who asks an engineering firm to show who was on site

Your ISO 45001 auditor

Clause 8.1.4.2 is about co-ordinating with contractors and making sure they know your site rules and emergency arrangements. The auditor asks for the evidence that they did.

An HSE inspector

An inspector can ask to see records during a visit, and who was on site and which contractors were working are among the first. The page on inspections sets out what can be asked for.

Whoever let the contractor in

The roofer, the electrician and the machine tool engineer are on site for hours, often with nobody from the business beside them. After anything goes wrong, the first question is who was here and what they were told.

What the kiosk does

A proper record of who came through the door, without a receptionist

Contractors and visitors, one screen

Name, company, who they are here to see, and a registration if they have driven in. A contractor signs in the same way a visitor does, and both sign out on the same screen when they leave.

Your site rules, accepted by name

PPE, no-go areas, speed limits in the yard, whatever your site needs, on screen before anybody is let through. Each acceptance is stored against the person with the time and the exact wording.

A roll call on a phone

When the alarm goes, your fire marshal opens the live list on their phone at the muster point and sees every visitor and contractor currently signed in, including the one on the roof.

Somebody told, even with nobody at the desk

Each sign in posts a message to your Microsoft Teams or Slack channel with the name, the company and who they are here to see, so an empty front office does not mean an unannounced visitor.

For hot work, work at height and other jobs that need a permit, thePermit to Work module is in early access, at £150 a month on top of the platform.

See it work

A sign in and a fire roll call, in 100 seconds

A visitor signs in on the iPad. The alarm goes. The marshal opens the live list on their phone at the muster point and reads off who is still on site.

The player loads from YouTube only when you press play. Nothing is sent to Google before that. What happens when you do.

What it costs

One price, in public

Setup from £599, then £150 a month plus VAT. The iPad, the stand, hosting and support are included, the iPad and stand are replaced if they fail, and nothing is charged per visitor or per user.

Being straight with you

What this does not do

  • It records who was on site and what they accepted. It does not check a contractor’s competence, insurance or RAMS on the platform.
  • It does not make a site compliant with anything. Your inspector or your auditor judges your whole system.
  • It records people. It does not open doors or replace an access control system.

Before you ask

The questions engineering firms ask on the first call

Do contractors sign in the same way as visitors?

Yes. On the platform a contractor signs in as any visitor does, accepts the same site wording, and is on the fire roll call until they sign out.

We have nobody on reception. Does it still work?

Yes. The visitor signs in on the iPad and your Teams or Slack channel is told who has arrived and who they are here to see, so whoever is nearest can go and meet them. Nothing is lost when the front office is empty.

Do we need IT involved?

Not really. There is nothing to install on your network and no server to run. You need a WiFi connection and a mains socket where the kiosk is going.

What does it cost for a site our size?

The same as for anybody: setup from £599, then £150 a month plus VAT, with the iPad, the stand, hosting and support included. Nothing is charged per visitor or per user, so a busy week costs the same as a quiet one.

Next step

Tell us who comes through your door in a week

Fifteen minutes on the phone. Who covers the front office, how many contractors you have in, and what your last audit or inspection asked about them. We will tell you straight whether a kiosk is worth your time.

Book a 15 minute call

No site visit needed and nothing to install. If it is not a fit we will say so on the call.
